Summary: Centex Homes did a great job through the stressful process of buying a home from start to finish. When there was a problem (our move-in date was pushed back two weeks meaning we wouldn't have a place to stay), we contacted the sales team and they worked with the construction crew to put our completion date back on track with the original date. We could not have been happier in our experience with Centex Homes.
Centex Homes has townhouses and single-family homes throughout Utah. They had a wide variety of floor plans and let you pick and choose what features you wanted. You will be slightly more limited if you choose to purchase a house that is already under construction, but they will give you an incentive that will more than compensate you for the loss of a few options you would rather have had.
The housing units are very high quality. Centex shows their confidence in construction by offering a 2-year warranty whereas most Utah homebuilders offer only a 1-year.
Pretty much any homebuilder can offer a decent selection and high quality, but service is what really differentiated Centex from any other homebuilder we met with. They paid attention to every small detail and took their time to make sure that we understood, in detail, every step of the home buying process.
They also have a mortgage arm, Centex Mortgage (CTX Mortgage), who were also very helpful and willing to go above and beyond what was necessary to make sure that we were taken care of and happy with our new home purchase.
The purchase price was a bit higher than many local builders, but this is largely offset by the extended warranty they offer. Furthermore, many home builders in Utah will rope customers in by promising low prices, but not disclose the true cost of home ownership until their customers are well into the buying process. Centex was honest upfront and there were no expenses added later that we were not expecting - in fact, we received over $600 in cash back that we were not expecting from Centex.
Reasonable Sales Tactics
It is so refreshing to do business with a company in Utah that goes out of its way to make sure that it is not doing anything unethical. The salesmen were always friendly, honest and a pleasure to work with.
One problem arose throughout our home buying experience - the date of completion was pushed back two weeks. We were concerned because we would not have a place to stay for those two weeks so we contacted our sales representative. He was very honest and told us that he could not promise to put our house back on schedule, but he would see what he could do. Sure enough, he worked with the construction team and had them allocate a bit more time on our unit than the ones that had not yet been sold in the area and we were back on schedule. We moved in the day we were scheduled to.
Buying a Centex Home in Utah is a pleasure and represents a great investment whether you plan to make it your primary residence or are planning on renting it out. We need to do business with companies such as Centex Homes to show other Utah home builders what we expect in the home purchasing process.
